Letter to the Editor: Cruel health care bill

This bill should be called “the denial of health care bill.” It will take health insurance away from 23 million people, make health insurance unaffordable for elderly people, and increase the cost of hospital care. The Affordable Care Act covered people who were working and couldn’t afford health insurance. Now we are telling these people our government does not care if you get sick. Poor children and their families don’t have a right to good health? How are these...

Letter to the Editor: Blumenthal should worry about actual problems

Sen. Richard Blumenthal made a comment about addressing airlines and increasing the level of passenger comfort. I am certain he realizes that there are options for passengers that are looking for extra seat and leg room space. First and business class and extra leg room seats are available for those in need of extra space. The cost of requiring airlines to mandate larger seating arrangements will become the burden of all who fly. If Blumenthal is serious about increasing the comfort level of...

Letter to the Editor: Enlightenment can relieve our pain

The letter about the experience of migraine headaches reminded me of people I have cared for with migraine and other health issues. One therapeutic step was to ask the person what words they would use to describe what they were experiencing, be it a migraine or cancer. When their words were negative ones, like pressure or failure, I would ask what else in their life fits those words and needs to be eliminated.

Letter to the Editor: ACA is doing just fine

I take exception to the recent letter of David Holbrook. Contrary to his opinion, the Affordable Care Act is not in its death throe. It is alive and well, needing some improvements. On the other hand, nine Republican senators are refusing to sign onto Trumpcare. Also, the single payer plan advocated by Bernie Sanders is not a Medicaid plan but rather, Medicare for all. Medicare has proven to be one of the most successful social programs of all time.

Letter to the Editor: Veterans being denied military honors because of Connecticut budget mess

At a funeral service last weekend our Post learned that because of the state of Connecticut’s lack of an approved budget, the rifle volley salute to our fallen service men has been suspended. The Department of Defense will still provide the color guard and the bugler, but the state-funded firing squad will not be present. This is a disgraceful act by our governor and the legislative leaders that are responsible for this budget mess. Our veterans and their families are being denied...

Letter to the Editor: Protect services for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities

It has been said that the measure of a great civilization is how it treats its weakest member. Each year when the governor and our legislators are busy developing a budget, services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) are put on the frontline for cuts. You would think they should be the first to protect.

Letter to the Editor: Encourage efforts to fund Alzheimer’s fight

On March 6, the Alzheimer’s Association released its 2017 Facts And Figures report relating to new data for the disease. Currently, it is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States, with no intervention or cure. In 2017, Alzheimer’s and other dementias will cost the nation $259 billion in Medicare and Medicaid costs. By 2050, these costs could rise to $1.1 trillion, which would bankrupt the already-strained system.

Letter to the Editor: Hoping Americans will see through Democrats’ divisive rhetoric

After seeing Republicans being shot at during a baseball practice in which five were hit by a crazed gunman because they belong to a party that has different ideas than his is just outrageous. This gunman, like liberals, cannot get over that Donald Trump is president. This hatred is spread from Democrat leaders, liberal news outlets, biased newspapers, social media and liberal talk show hosts. With all the “fake news,” rhetoric and lies, it seems like these Democrats will stop...

Letter to the Editor: Lawmakers must protect home care for elderly

Being of sound mind (76 years old) this is my first letter to the editor. This time I can’t simply stay quiet on the sidelines. Not now, when my choice to remain at home and live independently are at risk. Not this time. This is not about the “other guy” or someone else’s problem. This time the decisions under consideration at the state Capitol could seriously impact all seniors — our health and independence.

Letter to the Editor: Americans must come together for ‘common decency’

We were not given a good choice for president by the Democrats and Republicans. One had to be chosen. We now need to respect our president even if we don’t agree with him. The Democrats and the left should stop the hateful speech and come together for the good of the American people. We must go back to common decency and civilized behavior.
